About Us
Sporting Horse Promotions is owned by Liz Kanan, an equestrian with over 25 years working in management and marketing in the horse industry. She was Director of Grand Cypress Equestrian Center at Grand Cypress Resort, and "retired" after 17 years to build her own private farm and to start her own business.
At Grand Cypress some of her most noted accomplishments included hosting the USDF National Symposium from 1990 to 1995, 'til it grew too big; bringing the British Horse Society programs to Grand Cypress, becoming the first "Approved" training center in 1994 and the first approved "Exam" center in 1996. She up to 20 horse shows and clinics each each, including recognized dressage shows, combined training events, driving shows, hunter/jumper shows and clinics.
She regularly brought many of the top international names to host clinics, including well known names as Ian Millar, Michael Matz , Margie Goldstein, Karen O'Connor, Michael Plumb, Conrad Holmfield, Ronnie Mutch, Major Jack Burton, Don Stewart and more. Grand Cypress hosted the FEI AHSA (now USEF) International Judges Forum, the USET 1990 Team Training session with Reinert Klimke and many other top level educational events. The many efforts resulted in Grand Cypress Equestrian Center becoming one of the most recognized Equestrian Centers in the World.
Liz is riding and teaching even now while running her business, Sporting Horse Promotions. Therefore, she is well aware of the multi-faceted challenges of the horse industry.
